I originally started practicing Taekwon-Do in St. Mark’s Taekwon-Do school in 1987 under Ms. Keane (now 6th Degree) where my Father had already trained for quite a few years. In 1992 as a red belt we moved to Senior Master Howards School which at the time was in Brunswick Street due to work commitments clashing with the training times in St. Marks. In 1993 I achieved 1st Degree Black belt, grading under First Grand Master Rhee in Tramore. At that time I was the only junior in a class full of adults and learned a huge amount from sparring and practicing with some of the most senior black belts in Ireland including Senior Master Phelan, Senior Master Kavanagh, Master Dandy and Master Howard among many others and have great memories of lining up as a 1st degree and still being back in the 4th or even 5th row of black belts in the class. I have continued to train under Senior Master Howard’s instruction and achieved the grade of 4th Degree in 2010 which was a proud moment. I now teach the beginner adult classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I have competed in many national and international competitions including captaining the Irish Junior team to the World Championships in Prague in 1996 and also competing as captain of the Irish Senior team. I was also a member of the winning Irish team in the 4 nations challenge in Dublin in 1996 and the winning Irish team in the Ireland V USA challenge in Dublin in 1998 and also the Irish team to take bronze in the European championships in Estonia in 2007 with fellow instructor at Senior Master Howard’s Dojang Mr. Adam Fox as team captain.
